WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL EXPERIENCE

Small group outdoor art classes designed for curious, creative kids who want more than step-by-step projects. Students explore drawing, painting, collage, fiber and mixed media sculpture at their own pace while building confidence, focus, and a strong artistic voice in a supportive environment.

Class Details and Registration

Who It’s For

Middle School Students (Grades 6 - 8) who are curious, creative, and interested in developing their own artistic voice.

Location

Classes take place outdoors at McGolrick Park. We meet in a shaded area with space to spread out, observe, and work comfortably. Specific meeting details will be shared after registration.

Class Size

Small group setting of 4–12 students to ensure individual attention while maintaining a collaborative, social environment.

Class Length & Schedule

Morning sessions are 2 hours.
Afternoon sessions are 3 hours, giving students extended time to develop their ideas, work across materials, and fully immerse themselves in the creative process.

Classes meet on Satrudays during the school year and Monday - Friday during the Summer months. In case of light rain, classes will meet as scheduled under a tent. In the event of heavy rain, Saturday classes will have a rain date scheduled for a following Saturday while Summer classes will reschedule rain days for Saturdays.

What to Expect

Students will have the opportunity to explore drawing, painting, collage, fiber arts, and mixed media sculpture using a choice-based approach. All materials are provided. Each class includes time for inspiring instruction, independent work and a group reflection.

Saturday Morning Outdoor Art Class for Middle Schoolers

Register your 6 - 8 graders for this five-session, choice-based art class in Brooklyn’s idyllic McGolrick Park. Beginning Saturday, May 23rd, professional artist and educator Barbara Syrenka will teach a small group of up to twelve students, a series of foundational art skills while guiding them to develop their unique creative voices. All materials will be provided.
